Lenovo Trademarks

A E F I L M N O P R S T U V Y

This is a current listing of trademarks that are owned by Lenovo.

Because of the large number of products marketed by Lenovo and the fast-changing nature of our business, it is difficult to ensure that this list is always up to date. Lenovo will endeavor to maintain this list and to include, at a minimum, its most important trademarks, but cannot guarantee that all current marks are included. Please contact your Lenovo representative with any questions. Failure of a mark to appear on this page does not necessarily mean that Lenovo does not use the mark, nor does it mean that the product is not actively marketed or is not significant within its relevant market.

Those trademarks followed by ® are registered trademarks of Lenovo in the United States, other countries, or both; all others are common law marks of Lenovo in jurisdictions where trademark laws allow for common law trademarks. Though the ® notation is used in the list to indicate registration, rules for marking trademarks may differ by country. You may need to seek guidance from a trademark professional.

Guidelines for Use of and Reference to Lenovo Trademarks

Lenovo "trademarks" include the Lenovo company logo and other designs owned and used by Lenovo (collectively referred to herein as "logos"), as well as Lenovo product and service names (collectively referred to herein as "product names"). Lenovo takes great care in the development and protection of its trademarks and reserves all rights of ownership of its trademarks.

Use of Lenovo Logos

Lenovo carefully limits the use of its logos. No other company may use Lenovo logos unless it has the express written permission of Lenovo, or is licensed by Lenovo to do so. To obtain permission to use any Lenovo logo, contact your Lenovo representative.

Fair Use of Lenovo Product Names

"Fair use" of trademarks allows third parties to make reference to Lenovo product names (in text form ONLY). The following guidelines are published to ensure proper use of and reference to Lenovo product names. While fair use allows use of or reference to Lenovo product names, it is necessary that the usage be truthful, not disparaging to Lenovo, and not misleading to the public. Any time you use any Lenovo product name in any way, you must be clear and accurate as to the nature of the relationship between Lenovo and your company, its products or services.

Following are two common types of fair use:

Use of Lenovo product names by third parties is allowed by Lenovo without permission or license when specifically referring to Lenovo products. Example: "The ThinkPad® notebook computer is an excellent machine." Use of Lenovo product names by third parties is allowed by Lenovo without permission or license when indicating that a Lenovo product is compatible with another product. Examples: "XYZ is compatible with Lenovo™ ABCD software products." Or, "XYZ for Lenovo™ ABCD." Please note that the emphasis should be on your product name and any accompanying packaging produced by your company. Labeling should place emphasis on your product name so that it is perceived as an application or option compatible with or running on a Lenovo product. Do not connect your company name with any Lenovo product name. Do not incorporate any Lenovo product names or trademarks into your company's product names or into the root domain of any Web site owned by your company. Also, do not use any Lenovo taglines.

General Rules for Proper Reference to Lenovo Trademarks

Following are general rules for proper usage of Lenovo trademarks: The first use of each Lenovo trademark mentioned in communications must be identified in a footnote or attribution. The attribution must be located either on the page/screen where the trademark is used, or in the legal section of the communication or site in which it is referenced. Please note that laws concerning use of trademarks vary by country. Always consult a local attorney for additional guidance. Example proper attribution: "Lenovo™ and ThinkPad® are trademarks of Lenovo in the United States, other countries, or both." In the United States, the first reference in text to all Lenovo trademarks should be followed by the proper trademark symbol. The proper symbol for registered product names is ®. Example: "The ThinkPad® T41 notebook computer can handle your mobile computing challenges." The proper symbol for names which are the subject of pending trademark registration applications or which are used in accordance with common law trademark principles is TM. Example: "VeriFaceTM software provides peace of mind to computer users." Rules for marking trademarks may vary by country. You may need to seek guidance from a trademark professional. A trademark should always be used as an adjective qualifying a noun that is a generic description of the product or service. The trademark should also be used in a singular form. Example: "Three ThinkPad® notebook computers will be available." Do not change the form or representation of the trademark, including capitalization or punctuation. Examples: "ThinkPad®, ThinkCentre®." Do not create any new logo for any trademark.

Use of Lenovo as a Company Name

"Lenovo", in text, is both a trademark (product identifier) of Lenovo, and its company name. When "Lenovo" is used to identify the company, it is called a trade name. Trade name usage typically applies when referring to a company as opposed to a particular product. It is permissible to use Lenovo as a possessive if you are referring to Lenovo the company. In that case the name does not identify goods or services (which are legally the domain of trademarks).

Special Attributions

Some of our business partners require special marking and attribution of their trademarks- including Microsoft, Intel, AMD, Qualcomm, and others. The Web site of each company should be referenced for their current trademark use guidelines. Trademark use information is typically located in the Legal section of a website. Other company, product, or service names referred to herein or in other Lenovo publications may be trademarks or service marks of others.
