A desktop PC is a powerful tool that can be customized to your specifications and has a lot of options to offer you, regardless of how you intend to use it. Keep in mind that even a cheap PC tower can be a fantastic investment due to the ease with which it can be upgraded and customized.
At Lenovo, we offer everything you need, including numerous PC tower sizes and styles and all of the power adapters and chargers you need to go with it.
What Is a PC Tower?
One of the most common questions people have is what a PC tower is and why they should consider it. A tower is a box that holds all of the computing components within it. Towers were common for a long time before components became smaller and capable of being put into a laptop size. Towers hold all of the computer's components, including the memory and "brain" of the computer.
Typically, a monitor, keyboard, and sometimes speakers are attached to this box. The tower may offer areas where you can place a CD within it, and most have numerous ports to allow you to add a variety of accessories to it.
You are sure to find lots of options, from a white PC tower to cool PC towers that offer lots of color and styling to them. While the looks matter, what is within these towers makes the biggest difference.
How to Buy a PC Tower
As you start to look at the PC towers for sale, you may be unsure which one is the best choice for your needs. One of the best things about PC towers is how versatile they can be. There are options for everyday use, and professional use, as well as excellent options for gaming. Take a few minutes to consider how you plan to use the tower as a first step. Here are some things to think about as you compare them.
Consider the desktop PC operating system
One of the things to consider when comparing options in desktop PCs is the actual operating system. Every desktop PC has an operating system, and most are either Windows or Mac. Both platforms are solid investments and provide lots of connectivity and function. You will notice that Windows, which Microsoft makes, tends to be the most well-known option and tends to be the go-to option for those who are gamers. On the other hand, A Mac offers lots of functionality and tends to have fewer problems related to viruses and malware.
Other options exist as well. It is possible to get a PC desktop with a Chrome OS, which has become popular for students because these operating systems are very stripped down, simple systems. Linux is another option and is an open-source operating system that is noted for being very efficient.
Desktop processors
The next thing to consider about desktop tower computers is the processor. This is the power that is behind the desktop computer tower, and therefore you really do want to spend some time comparing options. AMD and Intel are the two most common options. Intel is noted for being the better option when it comes to performance. However, desktop towers with AMD are more affordable and streamlined. The best desktop PC for you is one that offers ample performance based on how you plan to use it. For gaming, editing, and video use, buying a desktop tower computer with Intel may be the route to take.
Memory
Tower desktops range widely in terms of the amount of memory they have. Memory is called RAM. It plays a role in the speed of the tower desktop as well as the overall performance of it. The more RAM it has, the better the computer's performance typically is. Most often, a desktop tower PC with 16 GB is ideal, though some light users may only need 8 GB. Those who plan to enjoy gaming may want to upgrade to a higher level than this.
Hard drive
The next thing to consider about the desktop tower is the hard drive itself. Many times, these towers rely on hard disk drives. However, some of the newer models include solid-state drives. These secondary options are a good solution for storing and cashing data. That makes them a bit faster and more efficient, which is often appreciated by those who are doing a lot of streaming on their device.
Optical drives
Computer desktop towers typically still have DVD burners in them. However, some of the smallest of these towers are getting rid of optical drives. If you plan to use your computer to watch HD movies, you will need to ensure it offers Blu-ray. This is not always necessary, and some people may be able to purchase an external player if they decide they want it later.
Video and graphic cards
That old PC tower you have from years ago probably cannot handle most of what is considered normal video and graphics today. If you do not play video games or pc games that have 3d graphics, you typically do not have to invest in a dedicated graphics card. However, for those looking for a gaming PC tower only and planning to enjoy these games to their fullest, having a DirectX 11 graphics card could be a good bet.
Monitors
Whether you are looking for desktop computer towers for everyday use or you are after the very best in gaming tower desktop computers, one thing is for sure. You need a monitor that fits your needs. Most often, the 24 inch LCD is the most common option because it is affordable. Most monitors for tower desktop computers are LCD, but you can find other options available. You may also want to consider 4K displays, which have fallen in price in recent years as more demand for them and options have grown.
How Do You Choose?
The best desktop computer tower for the money really depends on what you want to use it for and how much your budget is. In comparison to laptops, PCs are less expensive. However, prices rise with the more you add to them and the more you put into them in terms of extras. Finding the balance really means considering what your needs are, then.
A good place to start when it comes to finding a tower for a desktop computer is by determining if you need high-end graphics and powerful performance. You may need this if you plan to do a lot of gaming or video editing. It may be good to increase what you are purchasing in terms of memory, storage space, and processing. Ultimately, that is going to impact your ability to use your device, and it makes it more worth your investment.
Even if you are not looking for a gaming PC desktop, you still want to buy an upgraded and flexible system to meet your needs. For example, you may want to choose a more moderate or lower-priced option. That can be a good thing. However, before buying it, make sure there is room to add more memory. Be sure there are areas where you can upgrade to fit your needs. Over time, you may want to add more memory, for example.
The next thing to consider is the brand of computer. Does it matter? Most often, the answer is no. The key here is to know what is in the computer tower, especially if it is using name brand processors, operating systems, and other features that you recognize. There are some benefits to some brands. For example, you may be after a Legion PC tower because you know that a brand is an excellent option for those who are looking for a gaming desktop tower.
