"Green Box" Scheme for End of Life Cell Phones

China Mobile and eight major domestic cell phone manufacturers, including Lenovo Mobile, have cooperated in offering a "Green Box" scheme for recycling end of life cell phone and its accessories to help protect the environment. In this scheme, cell phone consumers can put their end of life cell phones and accessories in recycling boxes located at China Mobile business halls in 40 cities across China and at manufacturer sales and service sites. As a participant, Lenovo Mobile is establishing recycling boxes authorized service centers. Since these reclaimed end of life articles contain heavy metals, they will be consigned to professional companies for safe treatment and recycling. In addition to to end of life cell phones and accessories, other electronic products and accessories that consumers put in these boxes (excluding ordinary dry cell batteries) will also be recycled.

WEEE Marking Notice

The WEEE marking on Lenovo products applies to all countries with WEEE and e-waste regulations (e.g., European Directive 2002/96/EC, India E-Waste Management & Handling Rules, 2011). Appliances are labeled in accordance with local regulations concerning waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). These regulations determine the framework for the return and recycling of used appliances as applicable within each geography. This label is applied to various products to indicate that the product is not to be thrown away, but rather put in the established collective systems for reclaiming these end of life products.

China WEEE

The Regulations for the Administration of the Recovery and Disposal of Waste Electric and Electronic Products (hereinafter the "Regulations") have been adopted at the Executive Meeting of the State on August 20th, 2008. The Regulations was effective as of January 1st, 2011. (No.551 Order of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China)

The State has implemented a system of recovery by multiple channels and centralized disposal with respect to waste electric and electronic products. The recovery and disposal of and any activities in relation to the waste electric and electronic products listed in the Catalogue of Waste Electric and Electronic Products for Disposal shall be governed by the Regulations. Below are Lenovo products included in the scope of this regulation:

1. Monitor for desktop microcomputer

2. Host-display integrated desktop microcomputer

3. Laptop microcomputer (including PDA)

4. Other devices for processing of information

PC Recycling Service

Consumers can receive free recycling of their end of life Legend and Lenovo desktops, monitors, notebooks, and servers and IBM or Lenovo ThinkCentres, ThinkVision, and ThinkPads and Iomega or LenovoEMC Network Attached Storage devices by dropping them off at one of Lenovo’s 450 service centers or 180 service partner locations in China. Lenovo also provides free home pickup within 20 kilometers of the service centers for all qualified desktops with a processor greater than PII 266, servers with a processor greater than Celeron 266, CRT monitors with a screen size greater than 15 inches, and LCD monitors with a screen size greater than 12 inches. Additional home pickup services outside of the 20 kilometers distance from a service center is also available with a charge. Currently, these drop off and home pickup services are not available in Hong Kong, Taiwan, or Macao.

Lenovo Asset Recovery Services

Lenovo offers Asset Recovery Services (ARS) to business customers to help manage their end-of-life technology equipment by providing PC take-back, data destruction, refurbishment and recycling. Lenovo also offers additional services including inventory, value assessment, on-site de-installation and data encryption. This service gives customers an end-to-end solution from Lenovo from the point of computer purchase to take-back and disposal. Lenovo's expertise in managing the end-of-life computers can help customers eliminate the time and expense of managing the disposal of surplus or replaced equipment themselves. Additionally upon request, Lenovo can facilitate donation of the old computers or can help customers receive cash back for them.
