Hitachi Accelerates AI Rollout with Lenovo TruScale Device as a Service

From humble beginnings in a repair shop, where its first product – a hand-built induction motor – was developed, Hitachi has since become one of the biggest manufacturing and technology companies in the world. It is now known for pioneering innovations such as Japan’s iconic bullet trains, which are credited with “transforming” the country.

Underpinning Hitachi’s success is a mission to drive social change through advanced technology in everything from transport to healthcare. As Hitachi continues its technological acceleration, the company sought to modernize its IT operations and device lifecycle management to match the sophistication of the technologies it develops.

With 280,000 employees worldwide, Hitachi identified its IT operations as a key enabler of innovation. To support this, the company is reducing time spent on IT procurement, improving lifecycle efficiency and expanding access to AI-enabled devices, with plans to procure up to 173,000 PCs globally by fiscal year 2028.

Hiroki Shimizu, General Manager of the Employee Experience Office at Hitachi, says: “Across sectors such as railways, energy and industry, we have long focused on addressing social challenges through technology. Currently we are building social infrastructure with digital at its core. Many people are exposed to Hitachi’s products and technology in their daily lives without realizing it. To continue delivering at this scale, we need our internal systems and employee tools to be just as advanced.”

A streamlined approach

To transform its internal IT operations, Hitachi focused on standardizing and simplifying device lifecycle management globally. This approach improves speed, consistency and the overall user experience. The company chose Lenovo TruScale Device as a Service (DaaS), a subscription-based model that bundles hardware, services and lifecycle management into a single solution, to streamline the full PC lifecycle under a global contract. This helps reduce administrative effort, improve deployment timelines and deliver a more consistent experience for employees.

Lenovo’s Managed Device Configuration and Deployment enabled Hitachi to benefit from faster rollouts and reliable device performance, while Asset Recovery Services (ARS) helps extend device value through reuse and responsible end-of-life processing. CO2 Offset Services supports Hitachi’s sustainability efforts, while centralized dashboards give IT teams real-time visibility, helping them track assets more accurately and reduce manual management effort.
