Most Lenovo laptops and notebooks contain lithium ion and lithium metal batteries, which are classified as hazardous by various global transportation agencies. These include the U.S. Department of Transportation, International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), International Air Transport Association (IATA), and International Maritime Organization (IMO). As such, lithium batteries are subject to numerous transportation regulations.
The Lenovo Battery Declaration of Conformity (DoC) is a document that affirms Lenovo’s conformance to U.S. and worldwide transportation requirements. It lists the applicable preconditions, testing, and regulations assessed for compliance.
The Lenovo DoC confirms that our batteries meet various international transportation requirements. It is also widely accepted by UPS, FedEx, and many other postal and delivery companies.

When shipping Lenovo or Motorola products overseas that contain a rechargeable battery, you may need to provide a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) or Test Certificate. These confirm that the battery meets stringent international safety criteria.
To locate these documents, you will need to know the battery’s part number (or ASM number) for your machine and then visit the Lenovo MSDS Finder page.
If you have the computer model/serial number, then please click here for instructions to obtain the MSDS and Test Certificate
If you do not have the computer model/serial number but you have the computer in front of you, please watch this video for instructions to obtain the MSDS and Test Certificate
If you still cannot find your battery’s part number (or ASM number), please e-mail compliance@lenovo.com and include your computer model/serial number so we can assist you.
