Lenovo's Commitment to the Environment

Lenovo is committed to environmental leadership in all of our business activities from operations to product design and recycling solutions. Lenovo's corporate policy on environmental affairs is supported by the company's ISO 14001 certified global environmental management system (EMS), which is key to our efforts to achieve results consistent with environmental leadership and ensures the company is vigilant in protecting the environment across all of our operations worldwide.

WEEE Marking Notice

The WEEE marking on Lenovo products applies to all countries with WEEE and e-waste regulations (e.g., European Directive 2002/96/EC, India E-Waste Management & Handling Rules, 2011). Appliances are labeled in accordance with local regulations concerning waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). These regulations determine the framework for the return and recycling of used appliances as applicable within each geography. This label is applied to various products to indicate that the product is not to be thrown away, but rather put in the established collective systems for reclaiming these end of life products.

Australian Packaging Covenant

Lenovo Australia and New Zealand became a signatory of The Australian Packaging Covenant (APC) in October 2010. Lenovo Australia and New Zealand will adhere to the objective of the Covenant to minimize the overall environmental impacts of its packaging by pursuing these performance goals: (1) Design: Optimize packaging to use resources efficiently and reduce environmental impact without compromising product quality and safety, (2) Recycling: efficiently collect and recycle packaging, and (3) Product Stewardship: demonstrate commitment.

The Action Plan has been developed to address the Performance Goals as stated in the Australian Packaging Covenant and will be incorporated in Lenovo Australia and New Zealand’s Environmental Management Program.

E-waste Recycle

Lenovo Australia and New Zealand are proud to be partnered with Ecycle Solutions to responsibly recycle E-waste. Under the National Governments, National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme, Ecycle Solutions provide a FREE recycling service for the general public to dispose of any end of life televisions, computers and computer accessories (such as keyboards, mice and printers – excluding toners). Lenovo Asset Recovery Services

Lenovo offers Asset Recovery Services (ARS) to business customers to help manage their end-of-life technology equipment by providing PC take-back, data destruction, refurbishment and recycling. Lenovo also offers additional services including inventory, value assessment, on-site de-installation and data encryption. This service gives customers an end-to-end solution from Lenovo from the point of computer purchase to take-back and disposal. Lenovo's expertise in managing the end-of-life computers can help customers eliminate the time and expense of managing the disposal of surplus or replaced equipment themselves. Additionally upon request, Lenovo can facilitate donation of the old computers or can help customers receive cash back for them.

Clean Up Australia

Lenovo Australia and New Zealand is a proud corporate partner of Clean Up Australia. Their mission is to inspire and work with communities to clean up, fix up and conserve our environment and to provide practical solutions to help us all live more sustainably every day of the year. It is now a globally recognized organization with the launch of Clean Up the World. The appeal of Clean Up the World (an estimated 35 million people from 120 countries annually take part) has demonstrated that this simple Australian idea has universal appeal and the health of the environment is of concern to people and communities worldwide.

CitySwitch

Lenovo Australia and New Zealand is proud to be a signatory to the CitySwitch program. CitySwitch Green Office is a national tenancy energy efficiency program run in partnership between the cities of Sydney, North Sydney, Parramatta, Willoughby, Canberra, Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth along with state government agencies, the NSW Office of Environment & Heritage and Sustainability Victoria. With a geographical reach representing approximately 70 per cent of Australia’s office space, the program works with tenants to improve office energy efficiency, thereby reducing the CO2 emissions that contribute to climate change. With this mechanism for effecting environmental action, tenants can influence up to 50 percent of total energy use in office buildings.
