Energy Star

ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy helping us all save money and protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices.

Lenovo offers a full complement of ENERGY STAR® qualified notebooks, desktops, workstations, monitors, and servers.  Click here for a complete list of Lenovo’s ENERGY STAR qualified products.

ENERGY STAR availability within Lenovo's current offerings includes:

  • Approximately 95 percent of all notebook platforms[1]
  • Approximately 50 percent of all desktop platforms[1]
  • Approximately 92 percent of all workstation platforms[1,2]
  • Approximately 95 percent of all monitors[1,3]

 Additional highlights include:
  • •  All Lenovo newly released ENERGY STAR qualified Desktop and Notebook platforms, and Monitors exceed the current applicable ENERGY STAR power consumption requirements (by 25% to +60%).
  • •  All Lenovo Class A external power adapters meet and exceed US (e.g. Dept of Energy, California Appliance Efficiency Program, etc.) and WW (EU ErP, Australia MEPS, etc.) energy efficiency requirements. Lenovo also continues to investigate and implement design changes which improve both overall and operating efficiencies for newly released power adapters.
  • •  Lenovo collaborates with other OEMs and participates in a number of industry workgroups focused on existing and proposed global IT product energy efficiency policy, regulation and requirements. The current focus and activities includes ENERGY STAR, US DOE policy updates regarding battery charger and external power supplies, Mexico Energy Law, Australia MEPS, China CEC and a number of other emerging geo focused protocols and regulations.

In May 2009, ENERGY STAR released a specification dedicated specifically to servers – ENERGY STAR Version 1.0 for Servers. Not long after, Lenovo announced that its ThinkServer line was the first in the industry to achieve both tower and rack qualification.

Power Manager

Lenovo’s Power Manager enables the simple and flexible management of your notebook and desktop power settings.  This innovative tool allows you to take control of your PCs power consumption which translates into annual power savings.  For example, business customers deploying ThinkCentre M58 Tower PCs can save $71 per year, per user, by enabling Power Manager, which translate into a smaller carbon footprint for your organization.[4]

Lenovo’s Power Manager, used in conjunction with Lenovo ThinkCentre desktop PCs, supports the centralized management of your company’s PC energy use via integration with LANDesk or Active Directory.   This advanced capability addresses one of the biggest challenges of IT operation professionals regarding the management of a distributed hardware environment.

[4] $71 is the cost saving based on using default settings of the Lenovo Energy Calculator comparing a ThinkCentre M58 Tower with Power Usage model of Business, Power Management Enabled against a ThinkCentre M52 Tower with the usage model of Business, Power Management disabled.  Results are based on a hypothetical typical customer scenario and your results will vary.)

Energy Calculator

The Lenovo Energy Calculator uses actual energy calculations from internal Lenovo testing, in order to determine the energy savings on Lenovo desktops, notebooks and monitors. The energy savings are based on an estimated usage model for various configurations. Costs per kilowatt-hour are based on 2007 US dollar calculations. Rates by country are based on 2007 information published by the United States Department of Energy. CO2 emission factors are from the US Dept. of Energy’s most recent data published in 2002. The tool allows you to select “Customize” and input your specific cost, CO2 emission factor and usage profile. Please select the “More Info” tab in the tool for more details on using these features. The Lenovo Energy Calculator provides an estimate and should only be used as a guide. Lenovo does not guarantee the savings as your company’s usage may vary.
