Solid-State Storage Drives (SSDs)

Solid-state storage drives (SSDs) use Flash memory rather than traditional magnetic storage. So they are lighter than traditional drives, use less power and offer improved performance (faster boot times, faster access to stored data). And since they have no moving parts, solid state drives are considered less susceptible to damage or breakdown.

Hard/Storage Drive Impact Protection

ThinkPad notebooks use rubber mounts for the hard disk drive (rather than rails); additionally, the HDD connector is not rigidly attached to the board, so the connector absorbs shock and impact. Our Active Protection System (APS) (on models with traditional magnetic hard drives) uses an accelerometer to monitor movement of the system and stop the drive, to help protect against damage when a fall or similar event is detected.

Long Battery-Life for All-Day Computing

Get all-day computing on select ThinkPad T Series models -- with external slice battery, you can even get up to 32.5 hours on the T430. (Requires external battery support as well as integrated. Battery life varies by configuration and system use.)

SuperSpeed USB 3.0

SuperSpeed USB 3.0 enables up to 10 times faster file transfer, allowing for lightning-fast copying of large media files, as well as seamless connections between audio- and video-related peripherals. Transfer speed also increases when copying from external USB keys, external hard drives, external optical drives, digital cameras, and other peripherals. All USB 3.0 ports are backwards-compatible with USB 2.0 devices.

UltraNav® Multipointing System

The UltraNav® multipointing system, available on select ThinkPad models, combines the red TrackPoint® button with the UltraNav touchpad and mouse/scroll buttons for greater flexibility. Use simple one- and two-finger gestures to zoom in and out, rotate images and scroll -- right from the touchpad.
