LENOVO DESKTOP PCs - MCPc RESELLS LENOVO PRODUCTS TO SAVE THEM TIME AND MONEY

"All of our customers have different computing requirements, but with Lenovo's ThinkVantage Technologies (TVTs) we have the tools to service their varying needs,” said Andrew Shannon, regional vice president of sales, MCPc. “We use the TVTs with almost every customer to help build and deploy images. We have over 40 customers that we've helped deploy TVTs in the last several months with an emphasis on ImageUltra, Rescue and Recovery, Access Connections (laptop only) and Power Manager. It continues to be our underlying goal to help them and us save time and money."

Lenovo announces that it is retooling its desktop PC portfolio to give customers two new, smaller, lower cost options. Lenovo’s new ThinkCentre A58 brings small-to-medium-business customers reliable, secure and affordable desktop technology in a new design, while the ThinkCentre M58e provides the technologies and green features that mid-market and large companies need to stay productive and efficient. With more customers demanding smaller desktop PCs today, the desktops come in tower and small form factor models.

“Customers are feeling the pinch of the challenging economic times, and are demanding PCs that give them the most value for their dollar,” said Dilip Bhatia, executive director, global desktop marketing, Lenovo. “We’ve crafted the latest Lenovo ThinkCentre desktops to give them the essential technologies they need to stay productive, reliability features and service plans to stretch their dollar further and security options to protect their business.”

Security, Reliability and Efficiency
For two layers of protection, users can combine Lenovo’s Rescue and Recovery tool included with the desktops to help in recovering and restoring lost files along with Lenovo’s Online Data Backup service to keep data backed-up in a secure, off-site location. Preloaded on both desktops, customers can try the service free with up to 5 GB of storage for 90 days.

The new desktops provide the security businesses require with features such as a fingerprint reader on several optional Lenovo keyboards for easy password management, I/O port disablement to help protect against external threats and a chassis intrusion switch to help detect tampering in the PC.

With select EPEAT Gold-rated models and models that already meet the Energy Star 5.0 criteria, which take effect in July, the ThinkCentre M58e desktop helps large enterprise customers ensure their PC technology is among the most energy efficient and environmentally responsible on the market. For companies with large fleets of PCs, the savings can quickly add up. A ThinkCentre M58e desktop combined with a ThinkVision L1940pW monitor can save organizations approximately $40 a year over previous Lenovo desktop and monitor solutions.1 Additionally, both the ThinkCentre M58e and the ThinkCentre A58 desktops are GREENGUARD certified, meaning they have been tested for up to 2,000 different chemical emissions.

Value-Added Tools Help Manage PC Investment
Most businesses purchase PC technology as an investment to be managed over several years. However, Gartner reports that only 13 to 16 percent of the total cost of PC ownership over the lifecycle of the PC comes from initial hardware costs, and the rest are software and ongoing management costs.2 The new ThinkCentre A58 and M58e desktops help organizations manage both upfront hardware costs and ongoing management costs in several ways.

Lenovo has engineered unique, ThinkVantage Technologies on the ThinkCentre M58e and Lenovo Care tools on the ThinkCentre A58 that are included in the cost of the PC. These tools help companies avoid IT costs and lost productivity associated with individual PC usage in SMB environments, such as data recovery, as well as issues IT managers in large corporations face, such as IT help desk calls, password resets, asset management and more.

Lenovo includes a variety of tools on the desktops such as Rescue and Recovery to help recover and restore files and Power Manager to easily manage and remotely control a PC’s energy usage even when it is turned off. They also include Client Security Solution, Client Security Password Manager and more.

IT administrators can deploy and manage Lenovo ThinkVantage Technologies across a fleet of PCs through purchasing LANDesk software. Additionally, the ThinkCentre M58e desktop offers platform stability of up to 15 months for corporate customers who may deploy technology over an extended period of time.

Ongoing Service and Support
Lenovo offers a variety of warranty options as well as its ThinkPlus Priority support service plans
which give customers 24x7 technical support and priority call routing, among a host of other features and tools. For those in-the-middle-of-the-night scenarios, ThinkPlus Priority support can help support critical business needs while helping businesses reduce or eliminate the need for around the clock IT staff, which can translate into significant cost savings.

For complete lifecycle management, Lenovo offers custom imaging and deployment, as well as Asset Recovery Services, a solution that provides for computer take-back, data destruction, refurbishment and recycling. Customers can also recover value from their old PCs which can then be used toward the purchase of new ones.

LENOVO ANNOUNCES WORKSTATION PCs

Lenovo announces two new workstations – the ThinkStation S20 and D20 - designed exclusively for specialized professionals in fields such as computer-aided design, digital content creation and oil and gas.

“Designers, engineers, developers and scientists require the highest levels in computing performance to help them produce breakthrough innovations,” said, Tom Tobul, executive director, Enterprise, Software and Peripherals, Lenovo. “The new ThinkStation workstations will deliver not only the utmost in performance, but also a user-centric design with an emphasis on quiet operation, even during heavy processing."

Turbo-Charged Performance
Turbo-charged for performance, Lenovo’s latest workstations can even be configured for personal supercomputing, helping enable professionals to innovate faster and reduce the time between an idea and a product. Adding the NVIDIA Tesla C1060 GPU platform to the workstations offers 240 additional cores of dedicated math processing power to help speed up calculations dramatically. In addition to this super performance boost and quieter computing experience over previous Lenovo workstations, the new workstations also will feature the latest, high performance technologies including:

  • Choices of the upcoming Intel Xeon processors for increased efficiency and performance with optional Intel®
  • Turbo Boost Technology for extra performance during peak processing
  • Choices of the latest NVIDIA Quadro line of professional graphics cards or optional ATI FirePro graphics
  • Certifications from leading independent software vendors to help ensure compatibility between workstations and major applications
  • Preloaded with Windows Vista with support for RedHat Enterprise Linux 5.2.
  • ThinkVantage Technologies to help with tasks such as data recovery, data migration and more

"There has been a revolution in our industry for building information modeling, and we're finding that with large 3D model files it takes a long time to get them open and started,” said Tom Toot, IT manager, Anshen + Allen.  “We've found that the Lenovo ThinkStation D10 performed better than workstations from other vendors with equal specs. We look forward to seeing the next generation of workstations from Lenovo."

Powering Green Computing Solutions
Not only are Lenovo’s next generation of workstations higher performing, they are greener. Lenovo is helping to lead the industry in using recycled materials with both workstations using 50 percent recycled content. In the ThinkStation D20 workstation, nearly 30 percent of the recycled content comes from post consumer recycled content, which is equivalent to the weight of approximately 19 plastic drinking water bottles. Lenovo also tested the workstations to be GREENGUARD certified, meaning they meet standards for more than 2,000 chemical tests.

The workstations also meet the Energy Star 5.0 criteria taking effect in July, and select workstation models are rated Gold by the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool for their environmental attributes.

Advancing Game Developer Innovation
Lenovo is working with Epic Games, maker of the “Unreal” series of games and “Gears of War” franchise, to showcase the latest enhancements in Unreal Engine 3 on the new ThinkStation S20 and D20 workstation.

“The ThinkStation workstations are really well built, quiet and fast,” said Mark Rein, vice president, Epic Games. “The service and support from Lenovo has been outstanding as well. We really put our workstations through the ringer when we're building games and engine technology, and the ThinkStation workstations have proven to be valuable and reliable tools.”

Lenovo will be providing several workstations to the Phase 3 winners of the Epic Games $1 Million Make Something Unreal Contest. In the contest, aspiring game developers create modifications for the PC version of Unreal Tournament 3 in several categories, including levels, characters, weapons, game types, tools, vehicles and more.

LENOVO THINKPAD LAPTOPS PASS THE "TOUGH TEST": MEET MILITARY SPECIFICATIONS FOR SEMI-RUGGED COMPUTING

Lenovo today announced that it is designating eight ThinkPad laptops for use in field and vehicle semi-ruggedized computing environments such as in public safety, utilities, construction and the military. The ThinkPad X200, X301, X200s, X200 Tablet, T400, T500, R400 and SL300 laptops meet a barrage of military specifications tests and are enhanced with uniquely-designed durability features such as an airbag-like protection system and a roll cage in select models. Because field computing requires excellent screen viewability, Lenovo is also adding a new optional 680-nit high brightness panel to its most popular laptop, the ThinkPad T400 laptop.

Military Spec Tested Against the Elements

Baked, battered, blistered and blown with sand, Lenovo put the lineup of eight ThinkPad laptops through the gauntlet to pass a significant number of specifications for military-grade computing.

The ThinkPad laptops met tests for:

Low Pressure – Tests operation at 15,000 feet
Humidity – Cycles 95 percent humidity through the environment
Vibration (operational and non-operational) – Jostles and jolts the laptops to make sure they can withstand shocks
High Temperature – Simulates high heat conditions by baking the laptop up to 140°F
Low Temperature – Tests operation at -4°F
Temperature Shock – Fluctuates between -4 and up to 140°F to test operation
Dust – Blows dust for an extended amount of time

The tests confirm the durability and reliability that many customers already rely on to battle the elements. Geophysicist, explorer and expedition leader Pasquale Scaturro travels to the far reaches of the planet with his ThinkPad laptop.

“For over 180 days a year I can be found on the road traveling with my ThinkPad laptop -sweltering in the hot jungle terrain and surviving frigid arctic and mountain blasts, said Pasquale Scaturro, Exploration Specialists, Inc. “From bugs and humidity, to sand and dust, heat and cold, my ThinkPad laptop has been exposed to them all. I've logged more miles on my ThinkPad in the roughest and most extreme environments in the world than perhaps any person alive. From the heights of Mount Everest to the full length of the Nile, the world’s longest river, it’s been with me. The Active Protection System is a must in the rough environments I’ve taken this laptop into. Besides using my ThinkPad to help me navigate in my airplane when I’m flying in the African bush (it’s my real co-pilot) and send Internet dispatches to my website from Mt Everest, I depend on it to keep my geophysical business and my personal connections going. It has withstood every imaginable environment on Earth and is still performing without missing a beat.”

Optimized for Outdoors
As the adoption of laptops increases and connectivity options continue to expand, users are spending more and more computing time outdoors. That makes screen visibility extremely important. For a crisp and easily readable experience, Lenovo is equipping the ThinkPad T400 laptop with an optional high brightness, wide angle screen, making it nearly four times brighter than previous ThinkPad laptop screens. The high contrast screen eliminates reflections with its anti-glare finish. And by using energy-efficient LED technology, the laptop maintains long battery life.

Police Departments like the Conover Police Department in North Carolina are using ThinkPad laptops to turn their patrol cars into mobile offices. Reduced time spent at the station writing reports gives officers extra time on patrol to protect their community. Officers are using ThinkPad T Series laptops to write and print incident reports, issue tickets and conduct criminal background checks from their cars. For IT Director, Chris Niver, Lenovo’s engineering made ThinkPad laptops the easy choice.

“Although not billed as a 'ruggedized' laptop at the time, the features offered far surpassed the other manufacturers. The fact that the ThinkPads came with a roll-cage design, shock resistant hard drive, built in security chip and the familiar red button as well as touchpad all as standard features really made my choice clear.”

Built Upon a Strong Foundation for Low Total Cost of Ownership
Lenovo engineers extra durability and reliability features into its ThinkPad laptops to help them survive all-weather conditions, lasting longer and outperforming competitors and leading to a low total cost of PC ownership.

Lenovo durability features include the:

Active Protection System – Temporarily parks the hard drive when the laptop detects a fall or sudden movement via an air-bag like system
Roll Cage – Serves as a protective frame around the internal components where the data resides and processing takes place with an extra top cover roll cage on the ThinkPad X301 laptop
Shock-Mounted Hard Drive – Offers extra protection around the hard drive to protect data
Spill-Resistant Keyboard – Withstands spills of up to two fluid ounces on select laptops allowing liquid to drain beneath the keyboard

In case of the unexpected, Lenovo offers Warranty and Accident Protection plans to help customers protect their PC investment. Lenovo also offers ThinkPlus Priority Support to give businesses around-the-clock technical telephone support, priority routing of calls and quick onsite repair. For an even faster response, ThinkPlus Priority 4 Support provides onsite repair within four hours after the original troubleshooting. Online Data Backup services are also available.

“ThinkPad is well known for quality, reliability and innovative security technologies for business computing,” said Tom Ribble, director, Worldwide ThinkPad Product Marketing, Lenovo. “We’ve always built tough laptops that can weather extreme conditions from hiking the rainforests of the Amazon to flying in space. You don’t need a PC that looks like a tank to excel in harsh environments, and unlike many of our competitors, we don’t put an extra charge on toughness.”

Built upon a strong foundation, Lenovo’s laptops offer the latest technologies with models including solid state drive storage for reliability, switchable graphics for longer battery life and the latest Intel® Centrino 2 processor technology for fast processing. They also come with choices of large hard drives, multimedia like Blu-Ray DVD players and a host of wireless connectivity options including WiMAX, mobile broadband, WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS. Lenovo has also collaborated with AT&T and Ericsson for price reductions on ThinkPad laptops with AT&T mobile broadband connectivity. Additionally, the ThinkPad X200 Tablet is the first Tablet to offer WiMAX connectivity.
