Lenovo Announces "Value-Added Software Plan"

BEIJING, China, November 15, 2005 — Lenovo Group, a leader in innovative personal computing, today announced its "Value-Added Software Plan" for Lenovo-branded PC product lines sold in China. This innovative program is designed to enhance customer satisfaction through PCs that are higher performing, easier to use and more reliable, at a great price.

Starting in December 2005, Lenovo will launch pre-installation programs for Lenovo-branded PCs which will include the Microsoft Windows operating system, Kingsoft and UFIDA genuine software in addition to innovative and value-added software developed by Lenovo. The Plan ensures that Lenovo customers can enjoy the best user experience and performance from their PCs — the ongoing system improvements, reliable quality, technology, and service and support available only from genuine software — all at a lower cost.

Lenovo will also launch education programs in its 5,000-plus stores to increase customer awareness of the value of genuine software and increase understanding regarding features such as system security and virus prevention.

"Lenovo's business model is built on innovation, operational excellence, and customer satisfaction," said Chen Shaopeng, vice president of Lenovo Group and general manager of Lenovo China. "Today's announcement demonstrates yet another way that Lenovo delivers innovation and customer satisfaction. Lenovo is committed to delivering high-quality products and services to customers around the world, through our own high-quality PCS, Lenovo genuine software, and software from global leaders."

Lenovo's ThinkPad laptops and ThinkCentre desktops — which are available worldwide — already feature Lenovo's ThinkVantage Technologies, the Windows operating system, and other genuine software pre-installed, with the enhanced service and support at competitive prices. Lenovo-branded PCs already feature genuine software such as "one-button virus kill."

Today's announcement was attended by Yang Yuanqing, chairman of Lenovo Group; Chen Shaopeng, vice president of Lenovo Group and general manager of Lenovo China; Lei Jun, CEO of Kingsoft; Wang Wenjing, chairman and president of UFIDA; and Tim Chen, Microsoft corporate vice president and CEO of the Greater China Region.

Lei Jun, CEO of Kingsoft, said, "As a global PC leader, Lenovo's alliance with Chinese software companies helps the growth of China's software and hardware industry and brings a more secure, reliable and exciting software experience to the customers. Kingsoft fully supports this plan and will integrate our best products with Lenovo products for users."

Wang Wenjing, chairman and president of UFIDA, said, "Today's announcement demonstrates Lenovo’s commitment to strong working partnerships with software vendors. We are happy to see UFIDA's products together with Lenovo’s products. We believe this integration of software and hardware will bring value to us."

"By introducing the Value-Added Software Plan, Lenovo again demonstrates its leadership in the world's PC industry," said Tim Chen, Microsoft corporate vice president and CEO of Greater China Region. "Our commitment to promoting software pre-installation in China will increase the value to our joint customers."
