IBM Offers Simplified Security for New ThinkPad Notebooks

Sydney, AUSTRALIA, November 4, 2004 ... IBM today announced the new ThinkPad G41, a powerful notebook that incorporates the dynamic processing power and high-precision graphics of a desktop in a mobile system -- well suited for users needing an economical way to migrate from a desktop to a mobile notebook PC. Available for download, IBM also announced an enhanced version of its Rescue and Recovery software with Antidote Delivery Manager, that simplifies the deployment of critical patches and security fixes.

Helping streamline daily tasks, the ThinkPad G41 offers a variety of IBM ThinkVantage Technologies that help customers improve PC security, provide choice and ease-of-use in wireless capabilities, and simplify PC management for users and IT staff. The newly enhanced Rescue and Recovery 2.0 with Antidote Delivery Manager helps users conduct easy system back-up and restoration of infected or deleted files as well as deploy critical updates even if the operating system has been corrupted by a worm or virus and will not run. Companies can configure Rescue and Recovery 2.0 to temporarily remove users from the network until they comply, leveraging the tool's pre-boot environment to deploy the updates and help management carry out required and timely maintenance to reduce IT costs.

“We're focused on meeting the varied needs of our customers in all areas of their business, from innovative hardware that is reliable and versatile, to tools and technologies that help make businesses easier to operate," said Erin Mikan, Brand Manager, Australia/NZ for IBM Personal Computing Division. "The ThinkPad G41 provides the high performance some customers require while still retaining good mobility. ThinkVantage Technologies top off the package with tools that simplify the complexities of operating a PC."

The ThinkPad G41 is the first IBM notebook PC to incorporate Intel hyper-threading technology, which maximises the power of Intel Pentium 4 and Celeron D possessors to support multitasking. Hyper-threading allows PCs to run intensive applications such as medical imaging, engineering and statistical computation programs at fast processor speeds, while performing tasks such as security updates and scheduled maintenance, without draining PC power or functionality. These capabilities provide added stability for increased productivity, access to information and customer service.

The ThinkPad G41 is available in 15-inch screen models and offers a pivoting base to allow easy positioning of the system for comfortable viewing angles. Available NVIDIA and Intel graphics adapters provide users high precision capabilities for the most demanding applications. A ThinkPad DVD recordable drive, capable of reading and writing to all five DVD formats, four USB 2.0 ports and a full-size keyboard further increase the functionality and ergonomics of the ThinkPad G41.

The ThinkPad G41 is available now starting AUD $1849.
