– Lenovo today unveiled an exciting range of feature rich notebooks that cater to the home consumer and the SOHO segment in India. The new Lenovo Y300 and Y500 notebooks incorporate Lenovo’s pioneering biometric face recognition technology that enhances data security and allows the notebooks to be used by multiple users seamlessly. Additionally the Y500 has advanced Dolby Home Theater, a Shuttle Centre for easy navigation between features, a slot-in ODD and a TV Tuner card that combine together to make it an ideal notebook for multimedia enthusiasts.
The face recognition feature that is incorporated into the new Lenovo notebooks is supported by Veriface software. This unique face recognition technology takes a digital snapshot of the user, extracts key features of the user’s face, and creates a digital map that becomes the system’s “password”. The technology recognises multiple users and logs onto the Windows operating system and other applications without requiring users to remember a single password. In the event of an unauthorised attempt, the notebook photographs the user and stores the image in a log for verification.
The integrated Dolby Home Theater that is built into the notebooks allows listeners to feel the drama, excitement, and emotion of their favorite music, movies, and games and enjoy surround sound experiences in a variety of playback environments. The Dolby technologies that are incorporated into the Lenovo Y500 address a broad spectrum of lifestyle needs and listening situations. For listeners who enjoy music or movies late at night, the Lenovo Y500 offers virtual surround sound over any set of headphones. For listeners at home who need a simple, inexpensive way to enhance their entertainment, the notebook delivers virtual surround sound using just two speakers.
“PCs today are so much more than a productivity tool. They are integral to our lifestyles, so they need to be easy-to-use and feature rich,” said Mr. Ajay Mittal, Vice President, Brand and Marketing, Lenovo India. “Our face recognition technology is the least intrusive biometric technology in the market. With data security becoming a vital concern among PC users today, we are confident that this line of notebooks will deliver a secure and reliable computing experience.”
In addition to face recognition and Dolby Sound System, the Lenovo 3000 Y family has unique features like the Shuttle Centre, the integrated Touch Pad, a TV Tuner Card and Slot-in ODD (a trayless entry for CDs/ DVDs). The Shuttle Center is an audio and video entertainment platform which helps the user navigate between menus without a mouse. The integrated Touch Pad features a wider touch area and provides two modes to avoid the incident touching of Touch Pad when using a mouse. The stylised design makes the user interface more integrated and compact.
