Lenovo opens Innovation Centre in India focused on collaborative development of new PC solutions

BANGALORE, INDIA, Dec. 28, 2006 – Lenovo today announced the launch of its first Innovation Centre in India. The new Innovation Centre will enable large enterprise and mid-market customers, business partners, solution providers and independent software vendors to collaborate on new personal computing solutions to address today’s toughest client IT challenges. The Innovation Centre, spread across 4,500 square feet is located in Andheri, Mumbai. This is Lenovo’s third Innovation Centre after Research Triangle Park, United States and Beijing, China.

Intel, Microsoft, LANDesk, IBM and Cisco will partner with Lenovo at the India Innovation Center to showcase new enterprise level PC solutions in areas such as hardware platform and application integration, active management technology, network connectivity and power management. The center will deploy globally developed solutions to specific customer requirements in India and also be capable of developing solutions when required by customers here.

"With our third Innovation Center in India, we aim to accelerate innovation for diverse client challenges and developing markets,” said Deepak Advani, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Lenovo . "By collaborating with our partners, we will focus on solving customer IT problems with an emphasis on the end user. The India Innovation Center will serve as a collaboration venue for fully integrated solutions along with our alliance partners.”

“Our decision to base the third Innovation Center in India is testimony to the importance Lenovo ascribes to India as one of our fastest growing markets and recognition of the unique, large enterprise and mid-market customers here. Solutions and technologies that are incubated, developed and showcased here will be driven by customer requirements. This will involve deep collaboration with our partners to ensure we address significant problems that our customers face as daily IT challenges,” said Neeraj Sharma, Managing Director, Lenovo South Asia .

The Innovation Center will include several components such as Technology Incubation, Partner Collaboration, Solution Development, Imaging and Training Services, besides a Solution Showcase. Participants in the centre will include professionals from Lenovo, Intel, Microsoft, LANDesk, IBM and Cisco as well as other technology companies, independent software vendors, and business partners.

The centre will act as a collaboration facility for businesses pioneering the conception, development or deployment of new solutions, which often encompass technologies and services from numerous companies. Businesses currently solve these problems in a serial process, meeting one-on-one with multiple companies. At the Innovation Centre, professionals from several companies will assemble together to brainstorm the possible solutions, interlock components, and resolve the actual details of deployment. These solution phases would be supported by the combined experience of experts who draw from already-existing solutions in the creation of completely new models.

Committed to the development of innovative products and solutions, Lenovo and its collaboration partners will continue to serve as the whiteboard for innovation for the PC industry. A customer-centric model for innovation will be reflected in the center. Lenovo and its partners in the Innovation Center will focus on ways to engage in innovation more quickly and easily surmounting barriers of geography and enabling a shorter cycle time between development and implementation.

"The Innovation Centre provides a direct way for the industry to test and implement real-world business solutions to issues our customers face every day,” said Sean Maloney, executive vice president and general manager, Intel Mobility Group. “The center takes a look at the entire platform – from hardware and software to services – to create solutions. This directly complements Intel’s focus on platforms like the Intel® Centrino™ mobile technology and other research and development areas such as virtualisation and active management technology which strives to bring additional value to our customers.”

"The Innovation Centre will be an ideal platform for the customers in India to experience the power of integrating applications, tools, technologies and services," said Hitendra Chaturvedi, Sr. Director, Microsoft India. "It provides the ideal opportunity for organisations to identify, test a secure client infrastructure, and thereby adopt the right solutions that best suit their business needs and we at Microsoft India are very excited to be part of the solution set."

“Working with Lenovo in the Innovation Centres around the world provides LANDesk a unique way to collaborate with customers and partners to create solutions that increase security and control for complex IT environments,” said Steve Daly, LANDesk general manager worldwide. “Our solutions offer a layered approach to security issues such as spyware, virus detection and removal, vulnerability scanning, access controls—as well as increased business process management capabilities. Integrating our solutions so tightly with the Lenovo ThinkVantage Technologies gives customers a unique solution that can drive even more business value across their enterprise.”

"IBM System X is a marquee name among businesses in India and around the world, while Lenovo is the fastest-growing PC player amongst the IT vendors in the country. This combined entity will set new benchmarks in product quality, lower TCO and bring innovative solutions for the enterprise customers," says Viswanath Ramaswamy, Country Manager, System X IBM India.

Cisco's Self Defending Network architecture helps mitigate most of the known and unknown risks faced by organisations on a regular basis. We are proud and happy to be associated and integrate our security solutions at Lenovo's third Innovation Center,” said Mohammed Hayath – National Business Development Manager – Network Security, Cisco India.
