Lenovo Unveils 'Collaborating Applications' Technology at CeBIT 2004

Hanover, Germany - March 18, 2004 - Legend Group Limited (Lenovo), a major player in the IT industry and number one PC brand in Asia Pacific, demonstrated for the first time in Europe its latest suite of 'Collaborating Applications' technology to enable digital homes and offices (CeBIT Booth number: Hall 1, 8f2). The product suite include Avantia home PCs, laptops, collaborating projectors and collaborating printers. All products on display in Lenovo's booth are embedded with collaborating protocols and are networked wirelessly. Lenovo is also introducing for the first time its newest range of concept mobile phones, PDAs and concept PCs for game enthusiasts.

About 'Collaborating Applications' Technology To address issues around discrete applications and isolated information devices that exist across personal information terminals, corporate information applications and social information services, Lenovo is proposing its visionary strategy of 'Collaborating Applications' Technology. The concept behind 'Collaborating Applications' is threefold. First, with 'Collaborating Applications' for personal information terminal devices, Lenovo believes that a standard protocol can enable shared resources and complementary services, by connecting different personal terminals and devices such as electrical appliances, telecommunications products and computers. Second, with 'Collaborating Applications' for corporate IT systems, businesses will be able to achieve optimum sharing and utilisation of resources among information systems, while achieving internal resources optimisation. Thirdly, with 'Collaborating Applications' for communal information systems, IT service providers will be able to provide enterprises, organisations and individuals with applications and services through a global IT infrastructure and application resources under established rules and standards.

Lenovo Avantia Home PC Embedded with Lenovo's proprietary 'Collaborating Applications' technology, Avantia is a state-of-the-art PC which integrates the functions of computers, home appliances and other terminal devices under a single user interface. With Lenovo's Media Link product, the Avantia Home PC effortlessly interacts with home entertainment devices to deliver the best multimedia digital experience on television sets or stereo systems. With the Avantia Home PC, the home PC unit, both in form and function, will be a key component of the living room.

Lenovo A820 Notebook Lenovo's A820 notebook is also equipped with Collaborating Application Technology, enabling the A820 to perform a wide variety of functions and flexibility of use with the potential for seamless connection to other devices and equipment. One example: a Collaborating Application-enabled projector can be linked with the A820 with one touch of a button, allowing the notebook and projector to automatically communicate with and configure each other. In the real business world, this would allow a number of users to efficiently deliver consecutive presentations without the need for excessive plugs, attachments and reconfigurations.

TDW660 Collaborating Projector features setup-free wireless network and playback of USB equipment. The wireless zero-configuration frees users from troublesome operational procedures, such as IP, modification or network setup. Once purchased, users simply unpack the product, switch it on and it is ready for immediate operation. With its USB interface, Lenovo TDW660 projector enables independent playback of pictures stored in USB equipment (including USB disks, digital cameras and mobile hard disks) without a PC port. It supports most picture formats, such as JPG, BMP, GIF, TCX and PCX, and its firmware can be upgraded through the USB.

Lenovo LJ2800W Collaborating Printer offers innovative functions such as automatic driver installation and real-time feedback of printer status so users do not have to search for, manage and install printer drivers. Users simply need to choose a printer, double-click its icon, and the driver data information packet will be automatically downloaded from the printer to their computer. Installation and system configuration will follow, providing users with a true 'plug-and play' experience. This revolutionary technology will help enterprises reduce their cost in network management and is breaking down barriers in the creation of the dream mobile office.
