Lenovo launches Y-Series notebook featuring facial recognition capabilities in Hong Kong

Hong Kong, July 16, 2007 - Lenovo Hong Kong today unveiled its first notebooks featuring facial recognition capabilities, the Lenovo 3000 Y Series Y410 and Y410a. By scanning the user's facial features and matching them with the images from the notebook's database, the facial recognition function allows users to securely log on without password entry. These stylish and multi-functional notebooks also come with Lenovo's unique entertainment platform, Media Shuttle Center, which offers users a better multimedia and audio experience. The highly personal Lenovo 3000 Y Series notebooks are designed to meet the "any time, any where" needs of today's multimedia generation.

The Y410 and Y410a feature innovative facial recognition technology that scans and stores five "prime spots" of the user's face, including both eyes, cheekbones and chin. Users can securely log on the computer once the system has scanned and confirmed their identity, offering them greater peace of mind. The facial recognition technology can automatically adjust the data of the five prime spots as the user ages, allowing them to smoothly log on to the system over time.

Should a user leave their notebook in a logged on state, and someone else tries to access it, the Y410 and Y410a will record the visitor’s face in real time with their visitor tracking function so the user will be aware of this access.

Lenovo understands its users' desires for high-end multimedia features, and has ensured the stylish Y410 and Y410a notebooks provide the best audio and visual experience. They feature two high-frequency speakers in front of the keyboard and a subwoofer at the bottom, creating 5.1 surround sound with advanced sound clarity and quality. This audio system delivers enhanced digital sound effects and is accredited by Dolby Laboratories, allowing users to experience superb home theater audio and world-class surround sound features.

The Y410 and Y410a are also bundled with a remote control and Lenovo's distinctive entertainment platform, Media Shuttle Center. Using Media Shuttle Center, users can easily control multimedia functions, such as volume adjustment, movie and photo viewing, music playing and CD burning with a single touch. They can also activate CD player function by pressing one button on the notebook without activating the Windows operating system. The Y410 and Y410a's 14.1 inch Ultra Clear widescreen allows users to enjoy the best home theatre experience with exceptional audio and video clarity.

Lenovo 3000 Y410 and Y410a come with One Touch Recovery that helps users diagnose, get help, and recover systems to a previously saved state in the event of software failures often caused by viruses or malware.

The Y410 and Y410a also incorporate a 6-in-1 multi-card reader (SD/ SD Pro/ MMC/ MS/ MS Pro/ XD) for downloading digital pictures from multiple types of memory cards, three USB ports, S Video 1394 and VGA ports and a DVD recordable drive. They also come with a built-in 1.3 Megapixel camera together with Easy Capture software which includes a series of exclusive backgrounds that can be used to creatively frame photographs.

'Today's young and style conscious users want notebooks with more than high-speed computing performance and typical functions. They desire stylish notebooks with innovative and unique features,' said Ken Wong, General Manager, Lenovo Hong Kong and Taiwan. 'With the innovative facial recognition feature, superb audio and video system and reasonable price, Lenovo 3000 Y Series is designed to meet their needs, allowing users to enjoy the ultimate multimedia experience no matter whether they are at home or outdoors.'

Lenovo 3000 Y Series Y410 and Y410a are the first choice for environmentally-conscious consumers who are increasingly aware of their computer’s environmental impact. They have met global Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) compliance standards and standards set by China Compulsory Certification and the United States Federal Communications Commission. Their lead-free materials also fulfil the strictest European Union Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) standards.

In addition, the Y410 and Y410a include speedy recharging technologies. Their recharging rate is 35% faster than the normal standard. In order to avoid CPU overheating, these notebooks also feature more ventilation spaces to reduce demands on their fans, which also reduce power consumption.

English versions of Lenovo 3000 Y410 and Y410a notebooks will be available through Lenovo Business Partners on 20 July and 23 July 2007 respectively, with prices starting at HK$7,998 and HK$8,998.
