Lenovo moves to Toronto

TORONTO, Ontario – November 24, 2005 – Lenovo (Canada) Inc., formerly IBM’s Personal Computing Division, has found a new home for its Canadian corporate headquarters at 10 York Mills Road in Toronto.

More than 400 employees now reside at the York Mills Road. Out of this location, Lenovo manages all sales, marketing, branding, and logistics for Lenovo products – including the award-winning ThinkPad and ThinkCentre lines of PCs -- sold into the Canadian marketplace.

Lenovo’s York Mills Road location also has an international mission, housing one of Lenovo's North American call centres that services customers in Canada and the United States. As well, procurement of transportation suppliers for Lenovo around the globe is managed out of Toronto.

“We are delighted that Lenovo has chosen the City of Toronto to be the home of its new Canadian Headquarters,” said Councillor Gloria Lindsay Luby, Chair of Toronto’s Economic Development Committee. “Toronto has the 3rd largest Information Technology and Communications (ICT) sector in North America and offers a highly qualified labour force, a superior telecommunications infrastructure and easy accessibility for international travelers and local commuters alike. We look forward to working with Lenovo to ensure its success.“

Since Lenovo acquired IBM’s PC Division in May of this year, its Canadian operations have been based out of IBM Canada’s headquarters in Markham. This move marks a significant and symbolic milestone for Lenovo.

“We are now a company that is laser focused on PCs,” explains Murray Wright, President Lenovo (Canada) Inc. “Although we continue to work closely with IBM, it is important for us to distinguish ourselves as our own company and moving into our own space is an important part of that.”

As a global leader in the PC market, Lenovo develops, manufactures and markets cutting-edge, reliable, high-quality PC products and value-added professional services that provide customers around the world with smarter ways to be productive and competitive.
