Lenovo provided strong support to Beijing's successful bid to host the 2008 Olympic Games and became a Worldwide Partner of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) — the first Chinese company to join The Olympic Partner Program — on March 26, 2004.
Lenovo provided product and services support for the 2006 Torino Winter Games, widely seen as Lenovo’s "coming out" party on the world stage. Less than a year earlier, Lenovo had recreated itself as a new, global company with the purchase of the IBM Corp.’s Personal Computing Division (PCD). With common values of social responsibility and corporate philanthropy, the work on the Torino Games was one of the first joint projects of Lenovo China and the former PCD.
Now, the new, fully-integrated Lenovo is running full-steam-ahead in its support of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, including the Beijing 2008 Global Torch Relay scheduled for the months leading up to the Games. Lenovo even helped design the torch!
At the Games, Lenovo, in collaboration with other technology sponsors, will provide more than 10,000 pieces of computing equipment and 500 engineers to help distribute real-time data and results of more than 300 events to the media and audiences worldwide.
Lenovo customers and employees will participate in company activities built around the 2008 Olympic Games and Torch Relay. This major sports marketing initiative will help build and expand the Lenovo brand around the globe. |

The Olympic Partner (TOP) Program was established in 1985. It is the highest level of worldwide sponsorship for the IOC. The term from 2005 to 2008 is the sixth generation of the TOP program (TOPVI), which is based on a quadrennial operation structure.
Companies selected to join the program are designated as worldwide Olympic partners and are granted exclusive worldwide marketing opportunities for their product, technology and service categories. The partnership also extends to cover the organizing committees hosting the Olympic Games as well as more than 200 national and regional Olympic committees and participating delegations.
"TOP partners like Lenovo have excellent product quality and corporate images, and they are the leaders in their respective fields. What they have achieved through their own efforts has not only won the trust of the IOC and Olympic host cities, but also that of Olympic teams and sports fans all over the world."— Mr. Gerhard Heiberg, Chairman of the IOC Marketing Commission. |
