The dangers of scrimping on tablets for businesses

The enthusiasm surrounding tablet computers has reached the point where even budget-conscious businesses are looking to adopt the technology. As the prices of tablets continue to drop, more businesses are planning to leverage the devices' mobility, portability and productivity benefits.

But the adage "You get what you pay for" may come into play here. Scrimping on any technology can result in an underwhelming outcome, so it is crucial that a company knows what it is buying into.

A business may consider scaling down its tablet distribution, providing devices only to employees who actually need them. This will allow the company more breathing room, enabling it to purchase fewer high-end tablets rather than more sub-par devices.

A company must also consider software purchases when making tablet plans. Several free productivity apps are available for tablets, but many of the better apps have price tags attached. Before launching a tablet initiative, a company should consider what apps and upgrades it is going to need to make sure they fit the budget.

This isn't to say that the most expensive tablet on the market is the only one worth buying. A number of exceptional tablets are currently available for prices that won't break the bank. The task for the company is to explore its options to ensure its tablet purchase is the right one.
