Technology growing in 21st century classroom

Digital technology has become all but essential in the classroom. In an era when computers and video games have become an integral part of students' lives outside of school, it seems fitting to use the technology in the classroom as well.

The trend toward the digital classroom has been underway for a couple decades now, but it has taken huge strides in recent years. Technology developments, such as wireless computer labs and interactive whiteboards, have enhanced teachers' capabilities and expanded educational resources for students.

More recently, tablet computers have caught on in the 21st century classroom. Educational institutions are increasingly rolling out initiatives to bring the technology to students and teachers. As a result, the educational experience can be much more fruitful, as educators can use the technology to introduce new teaching methods that engage the students and encourage classroom participation.

Access to technology is not a substitute for effective teaching, nor does it guarantee a student will excel in school. But as many schools are discovering, putting the latest technology into the hands of students can provide valuable experience with the tools they may use in their future careers.
