The first step is deciding what purpose the tablet will serve. Will it be used primarily when working on the road? If so, the user may want to make battery life a priority. If the shopper is a film buff or a gamer, screen size and storage space will likely come into play.

Then there's connectivity. Many tablets only come with WiFi capabilities, which may be OK if the device is going to be used primarily at home or in the office. For frequent travelers, cellular service may be essential. Some tablets are now available with 3G connectivity, and others even include 4G.
