04-25-2012Tablet computers to be big gift this Mother's DayMany children looking for the perfect gift for Mother's Day may go the technological route in 2012 and purchase a tablet computer for their moms, according to an April report from online shopping site PriceGrabber®. Overall, 13 percent of respondents to the organization's poll say they plan to show Mom how much they love her by buying her a new electronic gadget. Of those, 51 percent say they have plans to buy a tablet computer. "Even though most shoppers plan to honor their mother with flowers this year based on our survey data, it is not surprising to see that tablet computers are the top choice among consumers planning to give a tech-type gift for the holiday," PriceGrabber general manager Graham Jones notes. "Tablet computers have become one of the top-searched items on PriceGrabber this year," he adds. Forty-three percent of respondents say they will purchase flowers for the holiday this year. It's not surprising to see more people turning to tablet computers when purchasing gifts for loved ones. During the fourth quarter of 2011, the height of the holiday shopping season, tablet shipments rose to 28.2 million units, reports research firm IDC. |
