Storage needs for work computers
For those considering purchasing a new computer for work, whether it's a laptop or desktop, storage needs remain a key concern. However, with the ability to extend a computer's storage capacity with external hard-drives, opting for a computer with the greatest amount of storage is no longer a necessity, but rather beneficial.
Not every person has unlimited amounts of resources to buy a computer with boundless amounts of storage. Although purchasing a device with minimal storage isn't the proper strategy either, identifying the specific needs for the device is essential.
People using their computer to simply access documents and the internet may not want to delve into their wallet to buy a top-of-the-line device, while workers using their computers to store documents, spreadsheets, presentations and any other file may look to more expensive devices with greater storage.
"While I certainly make use of external storage when needed, I can easily work within the confines of 250GB on my laptop, or even desktop, computer," wrote Adam Dachis for Life Hacker, a daily web blog on software and productivity.
Identifying how the computer will be used is the most critical purchasing decision. But, with the advent of external hard-drives, upgrading a computer is easier than ever before.
