05-25-2012Microsoft Office coming to tablets in November?Though most of the attention on Microsoft® these days is set on the soon-to-be-released Windows® 8 operating system, the software giant appears ready to move ahead in other areas as well. According to the rumor mill, Microsoft is also gearing up for the launch of its popular Office software for tablet computers. The rumor that Microsoft would release Office for the iPad® has been circulating for some time, but now technology blog BGR reports the company is also planning to release a version of the software for Android™ tablets. Microsoft is reportedly targeting a November launch for both versions, according to the news provider. The Redmond, Washington-based Microsoft has been relatively quiet regarding Office's tablet debut, only chiming in from time to time to deny rumors or debunk a leaked photo. Most of its attention seems to be focused on Windows 8, which some believe could be a game-changer in the tablet industry. Though its impact won't likely be as significant, Office's release for tablets could be notable as well. Microsoft has so far struggled in the mobile industry, but a portfolio of popular, well-functioning software could give it an extra boost. |
