Laptops will always have an enterprise presence

Much has been made of the demise of the laptop computer in recent years, as devices like the smartphone and the tablet computer gain prominence and larger pieces of the computing market. But there is one area that laptop manufacturers can count on -- the enterprise.

Professionals will always have a need for their laptops, as the devices offer all of the capabilities and computing power they need.

While tablets and smartphones have certainly proven their worth during the past several years, there are many pundits out there who view the devices as a complement -- rather than a replacement -- for traditional computers. There are some areas where mobile devices simply fall short.

One glaring need that a laptop can suffice is a physical keyboard and a mouse. Members of the older generations of the workforce may not be comfortable typing on a touchscreen, which can be cumbersome for crafting long-form reports and other content.

Developments in the notebook market have also helped the technology regain a foothold. The rapid rise of the Ultrabook™, for example, could prove to be a boon for mobile professionals looking to combine the portability of a tablet and the computer power of a laptop.
