Keeping laptops healthy, happy

Owning a notebook takes a commitment on the part of the end user. Beyond software updates, the computers require special care to maintain their out-of-the-box feel and performance. Technology news source Mashable has provided a list of several steps a user needs to take in order to have a happy and healthy notebook.

For one, Mashable states, cleaning is key. With a little sprucing up, a notebook's performance can be improved and lifetime extended, and backing up files and organizing desktop shortcuts will free memory space.

Users should also develop better shutdown habits to keep their computers cool and safe while in transport. Instead of simply closing the lid, it's better to put the device into sleep mode or turn it off completely before taking it on the go. And when doing so, always use a padded case to protect its external and internal components.

According to PC Magazine, regular maintenance is necessary for laptops to remain in top form in terms of both looks and performance. The user experience can be improved just by paying a little attention to a device, the news provider says.
