According to technology news provider CNET, several Intel representatives plan to spotlight the lightweight, ultra-portable laptops that are expected to rival Apple's MacBook Air®. Mooly Eden, general manager of Intel's PC client group, will highlight how Ultrabooks are transforming the personal computer during his keynote on September 14. Meanwhile, Greg Welch, head of Intel's Ultrabook group, will discuss shifts in consumer PC trends toward lighter, thinner devices, CNET reports. Intel says it will also devote a significant portion of the IDF event to Microsoft's upcoming Windows® 8 operating system. The software, which is slated for release next year, will be run on desktop and laptop computers, as well as Ultrabooks and tablets. The first Ultrabooks are expected to ship sometime in late 2011, and Intel has predicted the devices will account for nearly 40 percent of the consumer laptop market by 2012. |
