Improving a tablet's battery life

The battery endurance of the tablet computer is one of the main draws of the technology, allowing users to browse the web or watch video anywhere from 8 to 10 hours on a single charge. But even that's not enough for some users, who may benefit from extending their tablet's battery life.

There are a few basic steps a user can take to lengthen his or her tablet's life, including dimming the screen and turning off wireless radios when not in use. Switching to WiFi when available is another effective way to squeeze a little bit of extra use out of a tablet.

Turning off the internet connection when one is sleeping or away from the tablet can also be helpful, especially since the user won't be checking application updates during this time anyway.

More advanced users may consider switching off some of the tablet's phone services. According to technology news provider CNET, these are primarily found on the Android™ operating system and can be a serious power drain on a tablet -- even when it's not in use.

Most of these tips will extend a battery's life anywhere from a few minutes to a couple hours. For those still not satisfied with their tablet's endurance, a battery extension may be the way to go.
