Gamer's dilemma: The desktop or the laptop

When a gamer decides to shirk the console in favor of a state-of-the-art gaming PC, he or she often runs into the dilemma: choosing the desktop or the laptop.

Desktop computers are generally ideal for gamers who need a little more power. Performance tends to be higher on desktop PCs, and the machines can typically support better graphics and are capable of handling more processor-intensive games.

But those road warriors who frequent LAN parties or take their computers to class or the office may be inclined to opt for laptops. What the gaming laptop misses in power, it should make up for with portability and a long battery life.

When perusing the market for a gaming laptop, the buyer should keep an eye on battery power in addition to processor and graphics capabilities. Six hours should be a minimum. If a gamer's situation dictates he or she travels often, this may be the best direction to ensuring one's gaming fix is always met.

Both platforms have their merits, and both have their advantages. Ultimately, it will depend on the gamer's preference to determine whether the desktop or the laptop suits best.
