03-09-2012Forrester: Tablet ownership rising steadilyThe popularity of tablet computers is driven by the consistent introduction of innovative devices that feature user-friendly interfaces and increasingly robust features. These are just some of the factors that are causing tablet ownership to grow, according to a blog post from Forrester Research analyst Sarah Rotman Epps. Forrester predicts that 112.5 million adults in the United States will own a tablet in 2016. That figure accounts for more than one-third of the adult population in the country. Between 2010 and 2016, Forrester believes that Americans will purchase 292.5 million tablets. Epps says the platform battle will be one to watch during the next several years, as the likes of Google and Microsoft® try to shave down the market share of leader Apple® and its iPad®. Other entrants into the market will also make things interesting. A separate study from tech industry research firm comScore looks at how quickly tablets managed to reach their current level, CNN reports. ComScore says that in the two years since the launch of the original iPad, approximately 40 million US mobile subscribers have already purchased the devices. |
