Desktop vs. Laptop - What's best for my family?

With the growing popularity of laptops, many families looking to buy a computer face the problem of whether they should purchase a desktop or a laptop for their homes.

One of the biggest advantages that the desktop still holds is storage space. In a large family, adequate storage could be essential to fulfill everyone's needs. For example, one member of the family could have 500 songs stored on a computer, while another could have an additional music library of 1,000 songs of a different variety, making the extra storage space important to let the whole family store their music. This also applies to organized storage of photos, videos and documents.

On the other hand, the laptop provides the mobility benefits that are not available with the desktop. Dad might want to lie down and watch a movie on the laptop before he goes to bed -- an option he wouldn't have with the desktop computer.

Also, if a high school or college student living at home needs to go study at the library, he or she would be able to take the laptop with them.

Both the desktop and laptop have their pros and cons for use at home, and a family should consider all of its needs before making a purchase.
