Can a tablet serve as your home computer?

Many people have changed their computing habits during the past few years as a result of the emergence of tablet computers. As the devices have become a larger part of their daily lives, some consumers have been asking if their old home laptop and desktop can be replaced.

The main computer for any household must be able to handle a wide range of uses, including the kids' nightly homework, media consumption, social networking and video streaming. With the innovations that tablets have experienced recently, these devices are capable of handling those tasks and more.

For many families, a tablet's portability may be its best feature. It can be taken into any room and connect to the internet through a home WiFi or wireless provider's 3G or 4G network.

The drawback to using a tablet as a household computing device could be the lack of physical keyboard and mouse. Typing longer essays and papers for school or reports for work may be difficult when relying solely on the touchscreen. However, physical keyboards and mice can be purchased as accessories for various tablet models.
